Frequently Asked Questions

The following FAQ’s and their answers are provided below
to help educate your clients on lash extensions.

What are lash extensions made of?
Both Classic lashes and Russian Volume lashes are made from a synthetic material called PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate), a type of polyester containing dark pigmentation and sheen.

Is it safe for my lashes?
Yes, it’s completely safe if performed by a certified Lash Technician. The careful technique and safety precautions during the application procedure means you can rest assured that all care is being given to the health of your lashes.

Will it damage my natural lashes?
FabYouLash only uses Elleebana Ultra Hold Adhesive, which is free from any Formal-dehyde. The techniques used also mean that, at any time should you wish to have your extensions removed, you will find your lashes in the same condition they were in before your extensions were applied.

Is there anything I need to do before my appointment for lash extensions?
The main thing is to have clean eyes and lashes free of makeup, especially mascara (some mascaras contain oils that can prevent lash extensions bonding correctly). If removing make-up, be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover.

Do not use any oil or petroleum based products, such as Vaseline or moisturiser, on or around the eye area for 48 hours beforehand.

Do not have your lashes permed as this makes it very difficult to apply lash extensions within the last 3 months as well as not bonding correctly.

What are Classic lashes and how are they applied?
These are single, synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to (but not touching) the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive.

A single extension is applied to a single lash, leaving the lashes and eyelids to move freely. They are applied carefully, one-by-one, using specially designed tweezers.

The whole process normally takes 1-2 hours, depending on how many lashes are applied.

How long do Classic lashes last?
They can last as long as 6 weeks, or until the natural lash with the lash extension falls out in its natural cycle, which is between 60-90 days. However, it is advisable to have some infills applied approximately every 2-3 weeks (depending on how well you take care of them) to make sure your lashes always look fabulous – by this stage, some would have fallen out as new lashes have grown through.

How long your lash extensions last also depends on how you care for them (ie. removing make-up correctly, not over-applying them with thick mascara, and not tugging or pulling at your lash extensions).

Some of my clients who take extra good care of their lashes reach at least 4 weeks before they need infills.

Why do I need infills if they last up to 6 weeks?
Lash extensions fall out according to your natural lash cycle, which is 6-8 weeks. This happens very gradually, with just a few here and there as new baby lashes come through.

After about 2-3 weeks, you will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen and new ones are coming through. At this point, it would be a good time to get infills so your lashes always look full.

Can I apply mascara to my lash extensions?
Yes. However, be sure to use mascara that is water-soluble or one designed specifically for lash extensions.
It is recommended you don’t wear any mascara if you’re planning to come back for a refill. Mascara, even when used sparingly, can leave behind a residue on the surface of your natural lash and, when refills are applied, they are then bonding to the residue rather than the natural lash. The effect will not last very long.

Can I shower, go to the gym, pool or spa while wearing lash extensions?
Yes. Elleebana Ultra Hold Adhesive is a specially formulated bonding agent that allows you to do all these things, worry-free. Allow 24 hours for the glue to fully cure (harden) before exposing the area to water or chemicals.

Are there any other aftercare instructions I should be aware of?
Yes. Maintenance is easy with lash extensions. Lash aftercare instructions (see ‘Aftercare’) allows you to make the most of your new look and keep your lashes at their optimum stage for longer.
